Wheeler farm is currently hiring temporary staff. The positions we regularly hire for are listed below. Perks include flexible hours, and a fun environment. We are looking for motivated, reliable, people-friendly folks to join our team in the following areas:

  • SUMMER CAMP COUNSELORS – CAMP DATES: JUNE 3RD – AUGUST 8TH**
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationship with participants, staff and farm employees.
  • Assists in delivery of youth farm recreation activities, including farmhand duties, animal handling, maintaining and clean-up.
  • Plans and implements daily activities according to program needs.
  • Facilitates skill-based and project-based group activities for youth.
  • Provides leadership to youth engaged in program activities.
  • Follows program procedures to safeguard health, safety, and well-being of participants.
  • Oversees and monitors all indoor and outdoor areas as assigned.
  • Assists in maintaining and controlling inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Enforces rules and regulations of facility, programs, activities, and events.
  • May be required to lift up to 50lbs.
  • May pickup extra hours in store.

The Wheeler Historic Farm Summer Camp requires Camp counselors to be active participants in all activities. Counselors must be able to play, demonstrate and participate. Our camp is 99% outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, rain, mud and dust. Hiking, climbing, playing are all part of the day. This position requires the camp counselor to be able to adapt to new and changing circumstances on a day to day basis. Shifts will be from 8:30AM – 1:30PM, additional hours available to help with farm chores.

  • TOUR GUIDES**

Provides tours of Wheeler Farm to individuals and groups. Relays historical and animal facts and provides information for visitors in an entertaining and informative way. Provides customer service to patrons as a cashier and guide.

Wheeler Historic Farm will host over 10,000 school children over the course of a season. We rely heavily on our tour guides to be outstanding in all aspects of executing their duties. We expect our guides to be friendly, easy-going, happy, attentive, flexible, punctual and responsible. This position requires the tour guide to be able to adapt to new and ever changing circumstance on a day to day basis. Tours are scheduled daily (Monday – Friday from 9am-2pm). Shifts will vary depending on registrations. Guides will be scheduled for no less than two hours on any given day. If you are a good fit, we are flexible and can work with your schedule.

  • FRONT DESK RESERVATION COORDINATOR**

Reservation Coordinator provides customer service to patrons in a variety of areas such as front desk reception, cashiering, and information specialist. Provides accurate information by phone or in person regarding event, rental space, and other services provided by Wheeler Historic Farm.

Work Schedule: 8-16 hours/week, office hours are Monday-Saturday (April-October 9am-6pm) and (November-March 9am-5pm). Morning shift is 9am-130pm and afternoon shift is 130pm-close with an occasional full day shift if needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.

Must be able to us a computer and type 20 WPM

Cashier/money handling experience preferred

Must be able to work alone and along-side team members in a busy front desk environment

Must be able to sit and stand on a regular basis.

Must be able to work an occasional Saturday and some holidays.

Successful completion of a criminal background check.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures customers receive outstanding service by providing prompt service, greeting, and acknowledging every customer, providing accurate product and service information, and accurately answering all questions that may arise.
  • Answers incoming phone calls, provide directions, promotes, registers, and collects all activity, program, concession, and rental fees.
  • Maintains awareness of all products and services provided by Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation.
  • Receives and receipts daily transactions at cash registers. Prepares register reconciliation of monies received.
  • Enforces rules to ensure the safety of all patrons.
  • Communicates customer requests to management.
  • Provides immediate notification to supervisory staff of mechanical problems, personnel issues, customer concerns, and safety hazards.
  • Maintains clean and orderly appearance of store. Keeps merchandise organized and stocked at all times.
  • Provides immediate notification to supervisory staff of mechanical problems, personnel issues, customer concerns and safety hazards. 
  • Enforces rules and regulations of facility, programs, activities, and events. 
  • Provides effective customer service in dealing with patrons, staff, and farm employees.
  • CASHIERS**

Store is open daily (Monday – Saturday 10am-530pm) and (Sundays 10am-2pm). Hours could change during the month of October for event.

  • Operates cash register, handles money, reconcile end of shift sales.
  • Ensures customers receive outstanding service. Greets visitors, provides directions and other pertinent information.
  • Maintains clean and orderly appearance of store. Keeps merchandise organized and stocked at all times.
  • Verifies delivery slips. Stocks and stores new inventory.
  • Provides immediate notification to supervisory staff of mechanical problems, personnel issues, customer concerns and safety hazards.
  • Leads tours of Wheeler Farm and describes point of interest to group members, respond to questions.
  • Follow procedures to safeguard health, safety, and well-being of participants
  • Enforces rules and regulations of facility, programs, activities, and events.
  • Provides effective customer service in dealing with patrons, staff, and farm employees.

Additional Information

TEMPORARY POSITIONS:

An “At Will”, FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

  • Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
  • Are not considered merit employees.
  • Are “at will” employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.

Possession of a valid Utah Driver’s License at the time of hire.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background investigation
