Job title:

Product Manager for eCommerce SaaS Company

Company

SparkLayer

Job description

Introduction

We’re and we’re on a mission to make enabling B2B eCommerce simpler for merchants. Starting out in 2021, we’ve launched a successful Shopify app that has enabled hundreds of brands to grow their B2B operations.

Our merchants base spans an interesting spectrum, from startups and small retailers, right through to well-known brand names all across the world. Our product has evolved quickly and continues to be received exceptionally well, with a powerful feature-set that is constantly innovating to help support our mission to make B2B eCommerce simpler.

We’re now ready for the next phase of our journey and we’re looking for people to join us to make a big impact!

Role Summary

We’re looking for a Product Manager to join our growing team and to help us turn our product vision into reality! We’re looking for someone who is passionate about digital technology, product development, and most of all… eCommerce. You’ll be working alongside our current software engineering team and be centrally involved in helping us build new features, improve existing ones, and continue making SparkLayer a product that merchants love to use.

Understanding our merchants is crucial to delivering a strategic roadmap of continuous improvement to ensure our product is industry-leading and ultimately helping our merchants grow their B2B businesses! We also believe the best products are designed around how people work, not necessarily what people say about how they work. SparkLayer is designed to be simple at its core, but extensible and flexible where necessary. We achieve this by delving deep into our merchant’s needs and ensuring it helps their end customers succeed via self-service!

As a start-up, our team is relatively small and it’s important you’re someone who likes to get stuck in and solve challenges. This role will be varied and multidisciplinary to an extent); from focusing on technical problems, frontend UX/design, through to how best to engage stakeholders to drive our product forward.

Requirements

In Product Strategy

  • Product Strategy & Vision: Working closely with the co-founders and the heads of business to develop and articulate the vision for our product.
  • Competitive Analysis: Comparing our product with similar offerings in the market to determine its competitive edge or areas where it lags, helping the wider company understand our product’s position in the market.

In Collaboration

  • Stakeholders: Based on stakeholder input (our merchants, end-customers, and agencies) and market trends, regularly adjust and prioritise the backlog. Input may be in the form of 1-1 merchant/end-customer interviews, surveys and behaviour metrics leading to qualitative analysis. The output of which to effectively communicate product plans, benefits, and results internally and externally.
  • Project process: Scoping, capturing and documenting requirements, articulating user journeys and user stories to the engineering team, and – once built – ensuring new functionality meets the criteria and is ready for testing with merchants.

In Technical

  • Technical Specification: Researching, understanding, and documenting the requirements of integrations with other systems, including an eCommerce platform or backend solutions (such as ERPs, accounting packages, back-office systems)
  • Data Analysis: Quantify product feedback from our treasure trove of feedback from current merchants and lost prospects to make informed decisions about what new features we should be prioritising.
  • User Experience: Collaborate with our UI/UX team to ensure our merchants and end-customer journeys are user-friendly, easy to use and match requirements whilst ensuring consistency throughout the product.

In Process

  • Documentation: Creating comprehensive documentation that our merchants, technical users and marketing team can use.
  • Kaizen/Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and adapt the product based on feedback from merchants, end merchants and other stakeholders.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A self-starter attitude, that can quickly grasp concepts/ideas that drive the product roadmap (e.g. senior leaders briefing on high-level direction for an element of the product and being able to own all associated elements to execute and deliver).
  • Exceptional communication skills (writing, presenting, and bringing people on board)
  • A multidisciplinary skill set – must be strong in associated product skills, but not necessarily an expert (UX, storyboarding, documentation, team delivery, presenting)
  • The ability to manage and direct multiple stakeholders – from merchants inputting into the roadmap, to eloquently being able to bring/update/coordinate our development team to deliver upon what we agree.
  • The ability to generate new ideas from our existing product/setup that bring fresh perspectives to how the product can be improved
  • A passion for what we’re building – they must enjoy eCommerce and the direct industry and technology space we exist within!
  • A strong sense of prioritisation and ability to make tough decisions with regard to deprioritising.

Preferred Experience.

  • Prior involvement in a digital or eCommerce setting or a B2B eCommerce background.
  • Experience in building, presenting, and ongoing optimisation of a product roadmap.
  • Understanding of various web technologies and digital platforms.
  • Proficiency in using project management tools such as Clickup, JIRA, Confluence, or equivalents.
  • Hands-on experience managing all stages of the product life cycle.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Agile methodologies, particularly Kanban or SCRUM.
  • Technical background with knowledge of software development and web technologies.
  • Please note: we are still open to applications that may not have the full skillset / experience listed above – if you think you can help drive our product forward, please apply!

Benefits

As a SparkLayer team member, you’ll also benefit from:

  • Inclusion in our company EMI scheme (with stock options)
  • Your choice of work setup (computer, accessories, desk setup)
  • 23 days holiday including all UK bank holidays and an extended Christmas break
  • Regular team meet-ups
  • Flexible time that works for you

Please note this is a hybrid working role, giving you flexibility in how you work. Ideally, we are looking for candidates based within 1-2 hours of Bristol, enabling in-person meet-ups more easily. You will be required to attend our Bath office a minimum of 1 day per week.
